Great footage of Mississippi John Hurt.
John Hurt was a self taught guitarist, who was given his first guitar by his mother when he was just nine years old. His playing was developed in near isolation as he rarely left his hometown in the remote town of Avalon, Mississippi.
Blind Lemon Jefferson’s distinctive vocals and original, imaginative and inimitable guitar playing not only helped to define the ‘Texas Blues’ style with his influential single note runs, but also made him the first to enjoy major commercial successful blues musician.
